Bio
Competing since: 2004
First time on snow: Age 2 at Alta, Utah.
Favorite maneuvers on snow: 360 off a natural wind lip into powder landing.
What does it mean to be part of the FWT: For me the FWT is the purest expression of skiing going today. FWT's team of organizers and guides help us to consistently access the best mountains and the best snow in the world. "The best riders on the best mountains" is not just a motto, its the truth and I'm proud to be a part of it.
Motto: Spread it to the edges.
Best Place to ride: Courmayeur, Italy
Why is it the best place: The south side of Mont Blanc is incredibly huge and powerful, yet the attitude in this village is relaxed and friendly. Great snow, too!
Best Rider of all time: Glen Plake
Best Rider of nowadays: Xavier de le Rue
Favorite Movie: All.I.Can
Favorite Music/song: Bombay by El Guincho
Favorite Book/Magazine: Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy and Powder Magazine
If you had one wish what would it be: To speak every language.
Perfect riding day: Middle of the week, skiing the trees during a crazy snowstorm at Alta, Utah.
Hike or Helicopeter: Both!
Beer or Wine: Tequila!
Pasta or Burger: Pizza!
Anything else: In remembrance of those who've passed away in this sport: Neal Valiton, John Nicoletta, and Ryan Hawks. Live to ski, ski to live!
My effort for the planet: To be kinder to the environment I gave up having my own car about two years ago. I live in Seattle - it is quite a large city and the traffic is horrible!
When you are on the highway it is absolutely crazy how many of those hundreds of thousands of automobiles only have one person in them.
Not to mention many of those autos are enormous and very fuel inefficient. So instead of driving I ride my bike, take rail or the bus, or share a ride with a friend.
When I leave the city I travel with friends or sometimes meet new people to get a ride with and this in itself is another benefit.
A lot of the things we do that pollute the environment are based on selfishness. I find that in treating the environment well it also brings people
together because it is something that requires cooperation.
This year I'd like to work on making ski equipment more environmentally friendly. My skis are made by Praxis, a small company near Lake Tahoe.
We have to find a way to use less harmful components in the construction of the skis, and also a responsible way to dispose of them and reuse the materials
once they are no longer being used. Working with a small company close to my home is awesome because the skis don't need to be shipped across oceans between
manufacturer and distributor, which although economically beneficial, harms us all in the long run.
