Kaj Zackrisson & Sverre Liliequist: the Swedish Vikings of the FWT
These two great friends, business partners and exceptional freeriders have a lot to say about the Freeride World Tour, freeriding as a sport and about each other…
Their take on the Freeride World Tour:
Sverre: “It is definitely good fun. We’ve been freeriding for years, but it’s great to have a solid, well-organized tour. Now, competition is just as important in freeriding as filming and photo shoots; and it is possible to do both.”
Kaj: “For me, freeriding has become a true sport with kids looking up to us and wanting to take the sport further. It feels great to be a part of the Freeride World Tour where there is a formal ranking, prize money, a serious tour that makes our sport truly professional.”
Freeride in three words:
Sverre: “Action, Progress, Happiness”
Kaj: “Sensation, Culture, Action”
What they think of the future of freeriding:
Kaj: “There will always be turns and jumps but the sport is evolving. The kids will bring it to the next level. I hope they will bring in more backcountry freestyle, however, I think for now they will bring slower speeds and more jibbing.”
Sverre: “The way of judging on the Freeride World Tour leaves the door open for the future of freeriding because of the Overall Impression that leaves room for freedom of style.”
How they see each other’s style:
Kaj on Sverre: “He’s a strong, compact skier who mixes lots of different styles with small and big turns. He also chooses original lines.”
Sverre on Kaj: “He is very fluid and has good speed. He also has an eye to find the best lines so he is really fun to watch.”
Kaj and Sverre own and run a business together, KASK of Sweden. They explained how they balance this with life as professional skiers:
Sverre: “We need to ski to make our business a success. Our professional activities are truly complimentary.”
Kaj: “We are both passionate about what we do, not only skiing, but our business as well. We stay busy on the mountain and off. Kask just wouldn’t be Kask without skiing.”
