the latest event info and registration details are now available!
As the snow starts to fall across North America and parts of the European Alps, freeride fans are getting ready for the upcoming competition season. With the longtime binding manufacturer Tyrolia now taking the reigns as the new presenting sponsor and several exciting new events, there is a lot of news to talk about!
Though the season has already dropped in the Southern Hemisphere with 3* and 4* FWQ events in New Zealand and South America, the Northern Hemisphere’s season officially debuts with the Revelstoke 4* in the Americas region and in Europe with the ever-popular Open Faces Axamer Lizum 3* in Austria which has just been postponed to January 14, 2017. Coming in quickly on its heels is the groundbreaking first-ever Asian event, the Freeride Hakuba, which launches on January 11 with a 2* event that will be followed by the principal 4* event a few days later.

Riders will get a chance to compete three times at the densely packed Verbier Freeride Week between the 16-22 January, offering competitors a variety of 2* options to ease into the 2017 season. These opening events will be followed by more than 50 competitions including a total of eleven 4* events across two regions–the Americas and Europe/Oceania–that will allow riders to accumulate points in an attempt to qualify for the elite Swatch Freeride World Tour (FWT).
With the national champion already crowned in New Zealand, competitors in Austria, Switzerland, and France will also have the opportunity to make history and represent their home country by earning this honorific title.
The seeding list for all FWQ events, which determines which riders are selected for events, is based on competitors’ best three results during the past 52 weeks on the FWQ. Registrations are filling up quickly for upcoming events so make sure to log onto the Memberpro system and secure your spot to compete during the 2017 season! Registration for events opens seven weeks before competition day and stays open for about three weeks but be sure to check your region’s most current dates. If the event does not fill up during the normal registration period, riders can still attempt to register on a first-come, first-served basis during a second registration period.
With so many exciting events, live webcasts at many of the 4* events, and more opportunities to accumulate points, the 2017 FWQ is guaranteed to be the best yet. Register now and come shred with hundreds of freeriders across the planet!
