Transport
Transportation is a priority for our sustainable development as they are the main source of greenhouse gas emissions. Transport of goods but also of people (staff, riders, guests, media, spectators) during a sporting event such as a leg of our tour is the vast majority of emissions of greenhouse gas emissions linked to an event. We therefore pledge to take action to limit emissions of greenhouse gases generated by our events, but for this we need your help.
Public transport
For each stage of the Tour, you find under "transportation" where more or less green alternatives are proposed to go to our events. We encourage you to use public transport to move around. All restorts which hosts our events are well served by public transport, allowing you to move easily while avoiding traffic jams.
Carpool
For those who still want to move using their own vehicle, consider filling your car by registering on website of one of our carpool partners. Carpooling is a user-friendly way to travel and has many advantages: you can share the costs of travel and parking, reduce traffic and therefore traffic jam, meet new people and by the way reduce pollution. You will also find CO2 calculators to be aware of the impact of our travel on the environment as well as links to other websites that calculate the carbon footprint of its travel and solutions of carbon-offset.
Internal actions
We are also working internally to limit greenhouse gas emissions. All travel related to the organization of the FWT is minimized by using as much as possible videoconference. The buiseness trips we have to made are optimized in order to limit the number of vehicles that we use whilst the train is preferred each time it’s possible.
Material Transportation
In collaboration with our main partners, we also setted up for this season a pooling transport of our equipment to reduce the number of transport and vehicles. Thus, only the "Swatch Freeride World Tour's Truck" will be required to route on the entire Tour all the material necessary to the organization.
The presence of helicopter on the venues is often viewed negatively, but unfortunately their use is essential to achieving our freeride competitions. New technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles do not produce images as good as those made using a helicopter, let alone the necessary emergency equipment in case of accident. The study conducted on the transport during the Xtreme Verbier 2011, however, demonstrated that the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere through the use of helicopters was low in proportion to the total emissions of greenhouse gas (less than 5%). However, this study did not take into account the noise produced by these machines. Aware of the inconvenience they create, we strive to minimize their flight time.
Emissions of greenhouse gases are responsible of global warming and endangering winter activities. If we want to be able to practice our sport for a long time, it is time to change the individual and collective practices in terms of transport and rethink the way we move. Help us to reduce the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere that our events raise, make a gesture for the planet!
