13 MUST WATCH SKI FILMS

After this weekends snowfall rolling through the Alps and old man winter already making his mark in North America, we've compiled a list of our favourite ski films that are guaranteed to raise the stoke levels even higher and have you hyped on strapping in for that first day of riding. 

Check out our selection of the top films we feel you need to see to get you in the mood for skiing!

 

ABOVE THE ARCTIC CIRCLE | Red Bull 

Spending the summer at home in Sweden, Kristofer Turdell , Reine Barkered and Jackie Paaso set out on a mission to explore their own backyard in search of runs that could rival the most iconic freeriding mountains in the world. With a combination of skill and pure luck, they manage to find pristine snow conditions and spectacular runs above the arctic circle in the most northern part of Scandinavia.

 



 

COACH | Katie Burrell TV

When celebrated professional skiers Lorraine Huber and Hedvig Wessel join forces to take on the Freeride World Tour, director Katie Burrell thinks this just might be a premise dreamt up in Girl-Boss heaven. Tanner Hall FOREVER 

Now, at age 35, Tanner decides to enter the Freeride World Tour; a five-stop competition circuit in which skiers are judged on their ability to descend through rugged, un-groomed terrain. Having never competed in a freeride competition, Tanner embarks on the latest chapter of his career, struggling against the limits of an aging body while confronting the darkest memories of his past.

 



 

ACTION MEN | Legs of Steel 

'Action Men' is a 12 Minute skiing short, brought to you by the Legs Of Steel. Featuring former Freeride World Tour Champion Markus Eder, British backcountry ace Paddy Graham and FWT veteran Fabio Studer the latest creation by the legendary LOS crew delivers spot on freeride action by one of the tightest crews in skiing. 

 



 

AWAKEN | SunGod

FACETS | The North Face

HUCK YEAH | Matchstick Productions 

Matchstick Productions 2020 ski film is packed with the best skiers in the world charging hard and having fun in some of the most spectacular locations. Prepare to have your mind blown as Hoji, Sam Kuch, Bobby Brown, Ari Tricomi and the breakout girl posse “The Blondes,” have the time of their lives shredding and stomping.

 



 

MAKE BELIEVE | Teton Gravity Research 

For 25 years TGR has focused on turning 'Make Believe' into reality, from exploring powder stashes in our backyard playground to first descents on unnamed peaks, the ethos of “live the dream” has defined our adventures. The film features full segments from snowboarders and skiers including FWT riders old and new such as Jeremy JonesSam Smoothy and Tim Durtschi.

 



 

SKIVAS | Coline Ballet-Baz

#Skivas is a 100% female ski movie by Coline Ballet-Baz, produced by BUG Visionaries and directed by UPLAND Films. 10 of the best female skiers and snowboarders meet during 2020 winter season to stack shots in urban, freeride and backcountry, and to show how Freeskiing is more than a sport, but a lifestyle and an art. French Freeride World Tour riders Juliette Willmann and Marion Haerty feature in the 100% female cast.

 



 

CHANNEL ZERO | Absinthe Films

"CHANNEL ZeRO" - it’s the channel that’s not on your television, you need to go out into nature to tune into this frequency. During this divisive chapter in history, Absinthe Films has focused on the unifying aspects of a global snowboard community that will not be kept apart, no matter what physical or psychological barriers are thrown up. Starring Nils Mindnich, Hans Mindnich, Wolfgang Nyvelt and Jeremy Jones.

 



 

ZERMATT TO VERBIER | Faction Skis 

The Faction Collective follow in the tracks of the mythic 'Patrouille des Glaciers' race, across the high alpine traverse linking Zermatt to Verbier. Along the way, this team of freeriders discover a unique alpine history and ski some of the most impressive peaks in the Alps. Freeride World Tour athletes Elisabeth GerriztenYann Rausis and FWT veteran Sam Anthamatten embark on this epic journey.

 



 

HIDDEN GEM | HEAD

Not far from the busy slopes of Whistler, deep in the heart of the Callaghan Valley, lies an off-the-grid lodge surrounded by old-growth forest and alpine peaks. In this non-motorized zone, all turns have to be earned. But touring through the trees before sunrise is a small investment considering the terrain and snow that awaits. Follow Freeride World Tour Athletes Jess Hotter and Blake Marshall, accompanied by local shredders Ian Morrison and Riley Leboe into the La La Land of backcountry skiing.

 



 

WESTERN FACES | The North Face

Australian mountaineer Tim Macartney-Snape, freeskier Anna Segal and Freeride World Tour rookie Michaela Davis-Meehan, are set to explore some of the steepest faces in their backyard. With New Zealand freeskiers Fraser McDougall and Hank Bilous along for the ride, they’re slogging deep into the backcountry to find freeride terrain that will have their Kiwi-counterparts do a double-take.
