Don’t miss out on your chance to register for one of the many exciting new events this season!

The 2016 season of the FJT kicks off in less than two weeks with the Verbier Freeride Week Juniors on January 9, 2016. With the continuing explosion in popularity in youth freeride, these young riders will get a chance to compete on the most legendary venues across the alps. Events are filling up quick but spots are still available for many events so check the website and register now. Long time FJT partner Dakine is back again this year to support the ever-growing youth interest in the sport.

The FJT event calendar will benefit from several exciting new stops this year across the alps. In France, riders will get to compete in Piau-Engaly and in Val Thorens for the French Freeride Series, while Norway will host events in Oppdal and Sogndal. In addition, riders will also get to compete at new events in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, and Eldorado Freeride will host a junior competition in Vallnord, Andorra.

All FJT events are operate on the star ranking system which is used to distinguish the competition level and significance of each individual event and is based on a ranking of one to four stars (1-4*). The first 3* FJT by Dakine event takes place in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc on February 7, 2016 and is the first stop of the Dakine-sponsored series. The Tyrolean resort of Fieberbrunn, Austria, on March 6, 2016, hosts the second 3* event and is followed by a third 3* event in Verbier, Switzerland on April 3, 2016. These 3* events are hosted in the same ski resorts hosting the fabled top level pro riders of the Freeride World Tour and are the young riders’ chance to throw down their top runs for a chance to move up in the rankings.

The age format remains the same this year with riders aged 14-17 able to register for any of the 1-3* events seven weeks before the event date. Though the registration is filling up quickly, it is still possible to register for 1-3* events so don’t miss your chance to compete this season!

The seeding and ranking system for the FJT is the same as the 2015 season and qualifies athletes based on their three best results over the last 52 weeks. This system allows riders to qualify for events based on their recent rankings and ensures a dynamic and competitive field of athletes. The system is also designed to track the progression of athletes and encourage them to move up from 1* to 2-3* events when their skills are developed enough to compete in higher-level competitions.
