Mega March in Region 2

With the weather pattern finally shaping up for the southern mountains in North America and plenty of snow from northern Colorado deep into Canada, things are finally looking brighter for athletes and event organizers in Region 2.

In fact, March looks to be the key month for athletes as a crowded event schedule will shake out the field and – most likely – determine who ends up making the big jump to the Freeride World Tour in 2019.

Key stops on the FWQ qualifying circuit in Region 2 this month include 4* level showdowns at Kicking Horse and Crystal Mountain, complimented by the return of Kirkwood’s Cirque venue after a several year absence.

Plenty of storms punctuated by blue skies and sunshine has made this year one to remember for Kicking Horse which kicks off an intense March in Region 2 with a series of 4* level competitions that will shape the race for FWT 2019 qualifying spots.

Kicking Horse takes center stage the second week in March at the Wrangle the Chute 2 and 4* events return from March 7 – 9. The Canadian stop will be the first chance for Region 2 athletes to grab 4* level points since way back in January when Revelstoke hosted the first 4* comp of the season, and comes on the heels of a very successful Freeride World Tour event where this steep and deep Canadian hideaway showcased the best freeriding athletes in the world (see the GoPro Moments here) while also taking on the burden of running the re-scheduled Hakuba event which unfortunately didn’t come off due to an over-abundance of snowfall.

Ample snowfall in the Pacific Northwest has filled in the terrain and the FWQ venues at Crystal Mountain.

After the Wrangle the Chute comp, the action comes fast and furious as the tribe migrates to the Pacific Rim as Crystal Mountain, Washington and Kirkwood, California, host 2 and 4* events starting on 21 and 28 of March respectively. By the time Kirkwood rolls around we will have a good idea who is in the driver’s seat for FWT qualification in 2019. Place your bets and cheer your favorites on, because March in Region 2 is going to be mega!
