A MEMORABLE 2020 VERBIER FREERIDE WEEK BY DYNASTAR COMES TO A CLOSE
One of the most impressive events of the year took place in Verbier last week to launch the FWQ and FJT into full-swing for the 2020 season.
There was beautiful blue skies and sunshine this past week in Verbier. The riders fought hard for lots of early-season points, in 4 competitions on 4 challenging venues, across the 4Vallées!
On the FWQ, stand-out performances at the 1* event allowed riders to earn a spot at the 2* events. Norwegian duo Hakon Knudsen (NOR) and Anne Ruud (NOR) as well as Swiss duo Marc Robert (SUI) and Coline Benninger (SUI) both swept the 1* victory to progress to the 2 x 2* competitions.
FWQ 2* #1
In the first 2* event that took place on the Shleronde, FJWC champ Maxime Chabloz (SUI) locked in his first win on the adult tour. A new wave of talent also emerged from the crowd, and featured names like Petra Durná (SVK), Martina Müller (SUI) and Samuel Gave (SUI).
FWQ 2* #2
The second 2* Qualifier was held on the Baby Bec, the face right next to the notorious Bec des Rosses which is the venue of the Xtreme Verbier. Returning crusher Paul Dentan (SUI) took the win next to Eliott Vezant (FRA), Sarah Bacher (AUT) and Anne Ruud (NOR) yet again.
The junior riders also brought the heat on the FJT. The final junior event featured 15cm of fresh snow for competitors in the U-14, U-16, and U-18 categories. Beautiful blue skies opened up on the Pointe de Sesale venue, allowing the top riders to stomp outstanding lines in envious conditions. Carla Sabidó Juvé (ESP), Elfy Rouiller (SUI), Nicolas Bourquin (SUI), and Giorgio Bellante (ITA) won in U-14. Loïc Perraudin (SUI) in U-16 Ski Men. And in the U-18 category Anna Burdet (SUI), Lou Soncourt (FRA), Raphaël Lafitte (FRA) and Némo Mantero (SUI) were victorious.
Off the slopes, riders and fans alike were treated to activities like the Rider Lounge at Sungod Basecamp, public run screening at Pub Mont Fort, and coaching by FWT athlete Sam Lee. On the mountain, riders were able to test ski equipment and help with a mountain cleanup season.
It was another epic week for this edition of the Verbier Freeride Week by Dynastar. The progression of the sport was evident and the stoke was high. With momentum building for the 2020 season, be sure to keep an eye on the top riders from this week as they head to upcoming events.
