Road Trip to Mammoth Lakes
Having a good pre-season training plan is vital no matter the sport, Scott Mikel has been giving us a little insight into what he's been doing in preparation for the season ahead.
By starting off his road trip at the most southern point in Mammoth Lakes, CA, Scott decided to camp near a climbing wall and wait patiently for the new snow to fall. This gave him the opportunity to scope out and climb a number of great craggs in some of the highest mountains on the West Coast.
After a few days of climbing, it the snow started to fall so it was time to move closer to the mountains. Unfortunately, high winds came with the snow, forcing him and his friends to have a down day of soaking in the local hot springs (not the worst thing that could happen!).
The following day, having scoped out a few lines Scott and his crew decided it was time to go on their first backcountry skiing session. They set off with a particular couloir in mind and finished the trip with a new camping spot at 8500ft elevation, and spent their last few days chilling and working out in the forest.
So far with all the different actvities they've managed to fit in it seems to have been going well for Scott and his crew. With more snow due we can't wait to see what else he gets up to!
