TURN ALL BINOCULARS TOWARDS KITZSTEINHORN | Freeride World Tour Skip to main content

Goggles on, take a deep breath and drop in!

On March 28th, Zell am See-Kaprun will once again become a playground for the international Freeride scene. As a 3* Freeride World Qualifier, X OVER RIDE Kitzsteinhorn, awards valuable points, which could be a springboard into the Freeride World Tour – and bring a great deal of prestige.

X OVER RIDE in Zell am See-Kaprun: A permanent fixture in the Freeride calendar since 2004, hotspot for legendary freeride sports, and a cult competition. On March 28th, the Big Mountain contest will go into the next round and steer World Tour riders, World Qualifier race winners and previous X OVER RIDE winners, as well as other national and international top riders to the powder of the “Lakarschneid” face on the Kitzsteinhorn mountain, where they will push themselves to the limits.

They must find the optimal line on the contest face “Lakarschneid“ and impress the judges with a controlled, stylish, speedy and technical run from start to finish over almost 700 metres of altitude. Here, they will need to keep a sharp eye, as 1,100 victory points are at stake during the 3* Freeride World Qualifier, which can help decide a starting place in the Freeride World Tour 2021 based on overall rankings at the end of the season.

Cult Competition with guaranteed passion

However, it isn’t only down to the coveted points that the Freeride contest features on the bucket lists of several riders. The special atmosphere and lived passion for freeriding that is celebrated there – whether on the part of the skiers, snowboarders, or spectators – makes X OVER RIDE a top location for many.

Speaking of top locations, those wanting front-row seats to the freeride sport action, are best taking the lifts up to Langwiedboden. From 8:30am spectators, including those without skis or snowboards, are able to go up in the Gletscherjet 1 cable car, or now, directly from Kaprun with the Maiskogelbahn and the 3K K-onnection to the event grounds. From here, you have the best view of the runs of the riders, the finish line and the judge’s seats, and you can experience freeride sport whilst partying or chilling out. With the new connection via the 3S cable car “3K K-onnection” from Maiskogel to Langwied, the X OVER RIDE grounds and the riders’ runs are also visible from the gondola cabin.
