The road to the top gets steeper as four-stars events are introduced
The future of freeride starts here: the Freeride World Tour unveils its 2027 FWT Junior calendar, the entry point for young riders taking their first steps in competition and the starting ground for tomorrow’s champions. A new season of progression, bold lines and fierce battles awaits the next generation of freeride talent.
But this season brings an extra reason to watch closely. The spotlight is on the 4-star events. As the highest level of the Junior circuit, 4-star competitions represent the ultimate challenge within the series. They offer the most ranking points and put the promising riders to the test, where technical ability, line choice, commitment and creativity can make all the difference.
New for 2027, the FWT Junior circuit introduces an updated event format offering a clear pathway for the next generation of freeride talent. From 1-star entry-level events, where young riders can earn their first competition points, to 4-star events, the highest level of competition, each step provides an opportunity to progress through the ranks.
4-star events represent the highest level of competition, bringing together the most experienced and highest-ranked young riders. With limited spots available and selection based on results from the previous 52 weeks, these events reward consistency, progression and performance under pressure. For aspiring freeride champions, they offer a key opportunity to test themselves against the best in their category and take another step towards the sport’s higher level.

With the new season just around the corner, young riders are preparing to push their limits and take on the challenge of international four-star competition. All eyes will be on Kühtai, Austria, for the 2027 Kühtai Freeride by Innsbruck Tourism Junior 4*, taking place from 29–31 January 2027.
Meanwhile, Italy’s freeride scene continues to grow, with the 2027 La Thuile Rutor Freeride Series by Audant Junior 2* scheduled for 27–28 February 2027.
Further north, the 2027 Scandinavian Big Mountain Championship Riksgränsen Junior 2* will bring young freeride talents together for another exciting stop on the junior competition calendar, highlighting the growing momentum of the next generation of freeride athletes.
