This August, Freeride takes over El Colorado

Andes Freeride Week promises a week of competitions and cultural activities.

El Colorado Montana Center in Chile, will host one of the most outstanding events of this winter season 2024 in South America, Andes Freeride Week. A week full of competitions that promises additional attractions, including parties and various educational activities.

It will take place during the month of August, in central Chile, at the El Colorado Mountain, located 36 km from Santiago. Hosting more than 150 national and foreign athletes. Those who will seek to collect the maximum amount of points in the international ranking and fight for a spot in the "Challengers and Freeride Junior Championships".

Freeride Chile, together with El Colorado, is working on a Freeride development program based on education, awareness and events.  El Colorado has one of the best Freeride sectors in the Central terrain, with a very accessible competition sector called "Chanchito", and access to the area called Santa Teresa, which has hosted great International Freeride events.  It offers a perfect training ground for world class freeriding.

The expansion of this discipline has reached 875% in the last 12 years. In 2023 there were a total of 112 Youth events with a participation of 3,889 athletes. On the adult side, IFSA hosted 44 qualifier events with 1,532 athletes competing. In South America the growth of Junior athletes has doubled, going from 71 athletes to 145. And for this 2024 it is expected to reach 200 junior athletes.

"In North America this discipline has had a significant growth at the hands of Freeride Clubs and their coaches reaching a total of 795 IFSA certificates couches." "For this same reason we will give courses during the Andes Week, so we professionalize this discipline every day and on the other hand we are working on the opening of the Freeride Chile Sports Club, "says Nicolas Munoz, Team Manager of the debutant team in the finals 2023.

Freeride Chile will open registration in early June, which will have limited spaces for this week-long exhibition that features a total of two youth qualifying events, three adult events, plus a Film Contest and many activities.

"After several weeks working with IFSA and FWT, and getting to know the terrain that El Colorado has. We see it as a great opportunity for development and growth for our athletes, to bring these events and prepare for the future," says Fernando Ochagavia, Technical Director of Freeride Chile / South America.

"Looking forward to a great season, we are waiting for all of you in the slopes of El Colorado to enjoy the best Freeride of the Andes", closes Enrique Barrera, in charge of Marketing.
