Vibram joins the Freeride World Tour: Performance starts before the drop

From steep ridgelines to rocky approaches, getting to the start gate is part of the freeride challenge. With Vibram joining the FWT as Official Outsole Supplier, we're highlighting the importance of grip and traction in the mountains.

The journey to the start gate

When watching a freeride competition, all eyes are on the athletes dropping into steep faces, navigating cliffs and choosing their lines. But what fans don't always see is everything that happens before the first turn.

Unlike traditional ski and snowboard competitions, freeride takes place on natural mountain terrain, often far from conventional resort infrastructure. Reaching the start gate can involve hiking up steep slopes, crossing exposed ridgelines and navigating rocky or snow-covered terrain.

For athletes, mountain guides and event staff, getting to the top is a challenge in itself.

Every step matters

In these demanding environments, reliable equipment makes a difference. Grip, traction and stability are essential when moving across challenging surfaces, helping mountain professionals and athletes navigate the terrain with greater confidence.

That's where Vibram comes in. Known worldwide for its high-performance rubber soles, the brand brings its expertise in traction and technical footwear to the Freeride World Tour.

Having previously partnered with the FWT from 2019 to 2023, Vibram returns as Official Outsole Supplier for the next four seasons, from 2027 through 2030.

Because in freeride, performance doesn't start at the drop-in. It starts with every step taken to get there.
