YETI Xtreme Verbier competition confirmed

The final event of FWT23, the YETI Xtreme Verbier, is confirmed for Saturday, March 25th.

Athletes will drop just below the top of the legendary Bec des Rosses with riders of all categories dropping in from a single start gate, giving them almost 600 vertical meters of extremely technical terrain to navigate, which reaches a gradient of over 50 degrees in some places. It’s been a while since the FWT riders haven’t been riding the full Bec Des Rosses from the summit and this is therefore an exciting moment especially as most of the riders are newcomers on the Freeride World Tour and the pressure is at its maximum. The weather pattern is very unpredictable, and Saturday is the best window before a snowstorm with 40 to 60 cm of new snow and over 80 km/h of wind. Despite the generally dangerous snowpack in the area, the Bec kept all its winter cover and it’s safe even after the bombings the head mountain guide performed yesterday. In fact, the snow conditions are some of the best ever seen on the Bec, with roughly 20 cm of fresh snow over a firm and stompable underlayer.

Who will secure overall victory?

This world-class event never fails to disappoint and, with world titles on the line, the intensity and pressure are turned up to the max. Katie Anderson (CAN) has already locked in her maiden FWT crown, but will be hungry to make it four wins out of five for the season. The world title race in the other categories remains tight, and Ludovic Guillot-Diat (FRA), Justine Dufour-Lapointe (CAN), and Valentin Rainer (AUT) will have to hold their nerves and deliver one more performance to secure overall victory.

Verbier has been going off in anticipation for this iconic event, and a plethora of live music and activities in the upcoming days promise to keep the vibes alive. Check out the full program.

Remember that the YETI Xtreme Verbier competition will be broadcast LIVE! Watch all the action as it happens at www.freerideworldtour.com. Until then, stay tuned to the FWT social media channels for updates and rider news, as the countdown to the season’s final event draws to a close.
